Project Partners & Stakeholders

The Welsh Responsible Tourism Group is an informal partnership of staff and Associates of the Welsh Institute for Natural Resources at Bangor University, and is affiliated with the International Centre for Responsible Tourism in Leeds.

WRTG aims to stimulate and catalyse research and training on sustainable tourism in Wales and to engage in international debates about how tourism can best contribute to sustainable development.

We want to explore how Wales can use tourism for the benefit of its communities and its environment. WRTG welcomes the participation of practitioners and other interested parties from the tourism sector, national and local government, national parks, consultants, heritage and conservation bodies, local communities, the education sector and academia.

	Dr Einir Young Head of Sustainable Development, Welsh Institute of Natural Sciences. Specialist in sustainable development and environmental management for business, including tourism and recreation.
	Professor Harold Goodwin Harold Goodwin is Visiting Professor of Responsible Tourism at Bangor University and the Founding Director of the International Centre for Responsible Tourism in Leeds. He Chairs the annual International Conference on Responsible Tourism in Destinations, and responsible tourism activities at the World Travel Market each year. Harold publishes, teaches and advises on responsible tourism and local economic development. He is Professor of Responsible Tourism at Leeds Metropolitan University, where he teaches on the MSc in Responsible Tourism Management and undertakes, and supervises, research. Harold drafted the Cape Town Declaration and he advises ABTA, the International Tourism Partnership and UNEP. His latest book on ‘Taking Responsibility for Tourism’ was published by Goodfellow Press in May 2011.
	Dr Gareth Griffiths Postgraduate Director of Studies (Business & Management) in the Bangor Business School. Research interests include strategic Information Systems, E-Business and E-Marketing. Gareth is Director of the MBA Environmental Management programme at Bangor, and joint leader of the EU INTERREG project “Green Innovation and Future Technology.
	Arwel Jones Regional development consultant specialising in the optimisation of natural, built and cultural resources. Associate Lecturer, School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography, Bangor University, lecturing in BSc/BA Heritage Management, Tourism Planning, Travel & Tourism, Festivals & Events and MSc Countryside Management.
	Dr Shaun Russell Director, Wales Environment Research Hub, Bangor. Dr Russell has conducted many training and advisory missions around the World, in the fields of biodiversity conservation and protected area management, including tourism development.
	Charlie Falzon Professional Associate, Countryside Training Partnership and Member, IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. Charlie has conducted many training and advisory missions in the field of tourism planning and management for protected areas around the World.
	Glyn Alban Roberts Director, Asia Study Links and former Director of the British Tourist Authority in Latin America. International consultant in training and planning for tourism development.
	Nick Stewart Nick Stewart is currently Sustainable Tourism Officer for Brecon Beacons National Park Authority. Since 2009 he has been working on a 3 year transnational EU project seeking to harness cultural identity for local economic development. Between 2012 and 2015 Nick will be continuing his role in Wales but working on a new project focussing on community led tourism and building alliances between the private sector and host communities where government, local communities and business can cooperate on practical initiatives in the destination. Nick is a part-time student on the MSc in Responsible Tourism Management, with a particular interest in tourism and local economic development and social marketing / sustainability communications for behaviour change. He also has a first degree in Environmental Science and product development experience in the adventure travel industry.
