Welsh Responsible Tourism Group

Welcome

The Welsh Responsible Tourism Group is an informal partnership of staff and external associates of the Welsh Institute for Natural Resources at Bangor University in North Wales.

The overall objective of WRTG is to develop multi-stakeholder engagement and understanding of the contribution of tourism to the economy, society, culture and environment of Wales, and through research, training and outreach, to enhance our ability to manage tourism more sustainably in Wales. The challenge is to achieve the key objective of Responsible Tourism, i.e.  to make Wales a better place for people to live in and to visit – in that order.

Where there is expertise in Wales which has relevance internationally, WRTG will seek to bring that capacity to bear on the challenge of tourism and sustainability more widely. In a two-way process Wales has much to learn from, and contribute to, international best practice in harnessing tourism for sustainable development.
